Are there different types / forms of intimacy at different stages of a relationship? For example: Dating / Marriage etc.
The level of intimacy in a relationship naturally fluctuates over time. In the early stages, it can be intense and profound, but as the years pass, it may diminish. Ultimately, sustaining intimacy depends on the choice to devote time and effort to continue nurturing it.
In the beginning, there is often a more deliberate effort to share and reveal ourselves to our partner, giving them the opportunity to truly know us.
As time passes, once we learnt the fundamental aspects of who our partner is, the conscious effort decreases.
However, in a healthy relationship, the opportunities for intimate connection become more frequent and effortless.
Simply being together for a long time doesn’t automatically result in a deep understanding of one another. However, being together for a long time and consciously nurturing intimacy, is more likely to build the healthy relationship we desire.
While the depth of intimacy may change throughout a relationship, the type of intimacy partners should aim for is one that is broad, holistic, and encompassing.
